Blue Ridge Parkway

blue-ridgeTo create a truly vintage hand-made look, one must do one of two things: get out a brush and start lettering, or create a font that mimicks the style. I of course did the latter.

In 2003 I took a trip to the mountains of Virginia. At every scenic overlook I took snapshots of the signs that described the location, elevation, the view, and so forth. Sure, I got pictures of the scenery too, but I knew one day I would want to use the photos as inspiration in creating a digital version.

It’s a nice, weighty font that’s not quite fancy enough for a title and too bold for a block of text. But somewhere inbetween these two purposes, Blue Ridge Parkway fits perfectly.
